the General Medical Council has recently decided that certain
Military Districts abroad, amongst which are Gibraltar and
Bombay, shall be recognised as fulfilling the requirements
of the regulations referred to above.

It is very desirable that Government
Officers, especially in this Colony where a knowledge of
Sanitary Science is of great importance, should be encouraged
to obtain the Diploma of Public Health, and in view of the
fact that Hongkong possesses
(a).
(b).
a population of over 300,000;
four Medical Officers of Health engaged
exclusively in Sanitary Work;
(c).
a Veterinary Surgeon, with facilities for
inspection of live-stock;
(a).
-gical Laboratory;:
(e).
a Bacteriologist in charge of a Bacteriolo-
an Epidemic Hospital;
and that there is therefore ample opportunity for teaching
Sanitation, I venture to think that the privilege which has
been accorded to Gibraltar and Bombay might well be extended
by the General Medical Council to Hongkong. Members of the
Medical Profession would then be entitled to qualify for the
examination for the Diploma by undertaking the necessary
course in this Colony under the supervision of the Principal
Civil Medical Officer, the greater part of whose time is
devoted to Public Health Work.
ཏྲ,
If this suggestion meets with your ap-
proval I shall be glad if you will be good enough to communi-
-cate with the General Medical Council on the subject.
